The construction of the bridge over the Val di Trebbia was made necessary following the collapse in 2020 of the existing ancient rock bridge, temporarily filled with the construction of a temporary bailey bridge.
The new conformation of the road allows to avoid sharp bends making the journey safer. The deck, which has a lane for each direction of travel, is lifted from below with a crane positioned inside the riverbed and unloads the weight on steel arches that in turn rest on circular piers at the base that widen and twist up and down with an ovoid section.
