The construction of the new Center of pediatric surgery in Entebbe (Uganda), designed by Renzo Piano for Emergency. Placed on the shores of the Lake Victoria, in the Wakiso district, the hospital will be a fundamental hub in pediatric surgery, as part of the ANME – African Network of Medical Excellence.
The hospital will have three operating rooms and 78 beds, representing also a training center for young doctors and nurses, coming from all over Uganda and nearby countries. “The hospital will represent a model of medical excellence, environmental sustainability, energy independence and clever space distribution. I would like to use the earth’s resources, water and sun, the most important achievement of the modern age. The hospital will be built on the shores of the Lake Victoria, surrounded by nature and trees. Vegetation will be the horizon for the young guests and trees will represent a metaphor of recovery,” said Renzo Piano.
