Maeg participates in the realization of the new Center for Excellence in Paediatric Surgery in Entebbe, Uganda, designed by Renzo Piano for Emergency.
Emergency, an Italian humanitarian NGO funded in 1994 to provide free medical treatment to civilian victims of war and poverty, had established in 2009 ANME – African Network of Medical Excellence, with the purpose of developing the health systems of the participating countries and delivering high quality and free health care in Africa.
The hospital in Entebbe, second one in the ANME network, will be built on the shores of Lake Victoria: it will host 3 surgery rooms, 78 beds and will also become a training center for young doctors and nurses from Uganda and surrounding areas.
Beside medical excellence, the designer Renzo Piano has conceived the structure to be also and environmental excellence and rely on natural resources such as earth, water and sunlight. The realization will be built in pisè land, a traditional construction technique that employs raw earth to ensure the maintenance of constant levels of temperature and humidity and will be equipped with a plant of about 2.600 solar panels that will satisfy the energy needs.
